Microsoft and Verizon somehow succeeded in killing relatives twice. The first generation came out in 2010 and was designed by Danger – the company behind Hiptop (aka T -Mobile Friends). Danger is home to people like Andy Rubin and Matias Duarte, which must be known by people who are familiar with the history of Android.

We have discussed the story of previous relatives, now we want to focus on what happened in the next decade. Well, the fate of Kin was sealed from the start, because the Windows Phone 7 platform was announced in early 2010.

Initially Microsoft thought it could follow the same game plans as with Windows Mobile and indeed PC – license software, let others worry about hardware. The company indeed sets several requirements for hardware, which holds the initial WP7 handset. For example, only WVGA resolution (480 x 800px) is supported at first. There is also a list of agreed chipsets, which make the WP7 handset lag behind Android in the CPU Core Calculation Competition.

You can read our initial review of Windows Phone 7. The cons list tells the story of the OS that is very mature-there is no copy/paste, there is no multitasking, there is no mass storage mode, there are no file managers throughout the system, there is no Wi- Termination Fi and become active and so on.

Apart from all that, then in 2010 the first WP7 mobile phone was launched, coming from several different makers – HTC, Samsung, LG and even Dell. Everything has made an Android device, but now the dominant desktop OS maker (and one of the prominent cellular OS) has joined the game. Is this the end of the young Android OS? Now, with benefits from behind, no, not at all. Because we were on the topic of backward review, Microsoft employees were rather premature when they held an artificial burial for the iPhone, surely in the success of Windows Phone.

Let’s look at the initial offering. There is HTC HD7, Legendary HD2 successor. There is also the HTC 7 Pro, which packs the QWERTY SLIDE-OUT keyboard, like HTC arrives, which is listened to back to the “communicator” force that is being built by HTC in the early days. Surround HTC 7 has a slide-out speaker instead, which is a strange choice, considering that the initial version of WP7 is not good for music (no equalizer for one).

While HTC is responsible for most of the list, there are also others. Like the sequel to Omnia from Samsung, the original is one of the more impressive Windows Mobile devices. LG is peeled off in its famous, Optimus, Optimus LG E900 7. Dell Venue Pro brand looks like a reliable business phone with a vertical slide-out keyboard and its eyes set on BlackBerry.

For 2011 Microsoft managed to secure the collaboration of the largest smartphone makers in the world – Nokia. The new Lumia series debuted with Lumia 800 and 710. Because Finland was in a hurry, they reused most of the Nokia N9 hardware when making Lumia 800. Both were one -only WP7 mobile phones managed by new key partners Microsoft sent, which issued some Wind from Windows Phone 7.

Both were powered by Snapdragon S2, one of the few chipsets on the approved Microsoft list. With the core of the single CPU, it appears a little less powerful for the end of 2011, considering that in May LG Optimus 2x makes it a Guinness Book of Records as the first dual-core phone. This is one opportunity where limited hardware support drags WP7 down.

Of course, it is not WP7 anymore, Microsoft released a new version dubbed Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango”. In September it was launched to an older device and Lumias came with him outside the box.

This is what should be seen by the launch version of Windows Phone -as we noted in our review, it adds important features such as multitasking and the Wi -fi hotspot function, plus a smaller one like letting you choose local files for ringtones. In mid -2012 effective updates are mandatory because Windows Marketplace requires v7.5 for downloads.

The original version of 7.0 is very incomplete, but then in 2012 we learned that the situation was far worse – Windows Phone 8 was announced in June and was immediately confirmed that older devices would not be updated, making them trapped in 7 which now no longer exist Branch .x.

Why? Well, there is a reason why WP7 phones are behind in the CPU Count Count Racing. Apart from the external similarity, the two OS is very different on the inside – WP7 is based on the core of Windows CE (which is powered by Windows Mobile before that), WP8 is based on a new Windows RT (which is powered by Windows 8 tablet). This is what activates multi-core support, superior graphics with a higher resolution screen, NFC and more.

As an entertainment prize, older mobile phones are given Windows Phone 7.8 updates, which tidied UI, but did not discuss the limitations of the OS core.

We have not mentioned the application until now, but it’s time we do it. Each new OS starts with a series of limited applications that it can run, which is painful because the smartphone is all about the application. However, WP8 is very different from WP7 so that the software developed for original mobile phones from 2010 and 2011 will not run on new ones, forcing developers to start from the beginning.

Moving to 2013, Microsoft officially announced the acquisition of the Nokia device & service unit. The € 5.4 billion agreement makes Microsoft the leading manufacturer of Windows Phone devices because other brands have reduced their involvement.

The agreement was closed in 2014 and in October the rebranding effort began to change the “Nokia Lumia” to “Microsoft Lumia”. Other manufacturers are still in the game, but only – Lumia mobile phones contributed 90% of the cellphone using the platform at that time.

Microsoft soldiered on and in 2015 launched Windows 10, which should be the last version of Windows. A day later announced the OS cellular version. It also experienced rebranding, dropped “telephone” and returned to “cellular” – Windows 10 Mobile.

Not surprisingly, Lumias’s long list was announced as the first updated device to 10. Microsoft would not repeat the same mistakes and patted its users on the old OS when starting from the beginning.

Lumia 1020, a successor to Windows to the Nokia 808 Pureview, was not invited to the party, however, which was abandoned at WP8.1. Lumia 930 and Humongous (Well 6 “seem to be concise at this time) Lumia 1520 has risen to 10.

We want to return to Lumia 920 in 2012 for a moment (which is also trapped in WP8.1). That is the first mobile phone with optical image stabilization, aka OIS, which (at least according to Nokia itself) provides pureview credibility. It also ratio multiple aspects of 808 where he can shoot both Figures 4: 3 and 16: 9 while losing the resolution as little as possible. By the way, a promo campaign for Lumia 920 makes Nokia experience problems.

Moving to 2015, Lumia wells dried up, but out with explosions – Lumia 950 and 950 XL were launched at the end of 2015. This is the best Windows phone ever made. However, there are only a few Lumias launched with Windows 10 Mobile, the other two are Lumia 550 and 650.

Lumia 650 was launched in 2016 and is the last of its type. In 2017 Microsoft pulled plug on WP8.1 with Joe Belfiore said that bug repairs and security patches would continue, but there would be no new features for mobile phones that were jammed at 8.X.

In January 2019 Microsoft began to recommend that Windows Phone users switch to Android or iOS. In December officially waved, promising only to support office applications for the current device until January 2021.

Microsoft has surrendered to make your own OS for smartphones, but hasn’t come out of the smartphone market. In 2020 he launched a double filtered surface duo. It runs Android, but Microsoft is very adapted to UI with strong separate screen multitasking ideas. That is not a telephone that can be folded, but it is hearing some of the same benefits (and loss).

This was followed by Surface Duo 2, which increased some of the initial errors (especially around the camera, battery and lack of cover display), but this device is still a niche product instead of serious competitors on the market.

There should be a larger Neo surface (with two displays 9 “), which is scheduled to run Windows 10X not Android, but with the same Multitasking UI idea. However, the project is postponed and then canceled quietly. Like Windows 10x itself, in this case.

For what is the value, some of the jobs performed at 10x were released with Windows 11 (10 really not the last version). Windows 11 can run ARM -based Android applications on X86 PC and can run the X86 Windows application on ARM hardware. Microsoft finally has an integrated OS that he dreamed of, not because it will make a difference for his smartphone’s ambitions. Today Microsoft sees a smartphone market as an opportunity to sell applications and services, not telephone.
