We, the residents of the earth have ideas centered on the earth about the universe and that might be fine. From the sun rising to setting (and so on), we eat, drink, work, and sleep on a single planet. Human colonies in the moon and Mars are still in the concept stage. Until then, a blue planet for us.
Because our minds are centered on the earth, it is difficult to imagine that the biggest canyon in the solar system does not exist on earth. Sorry Grand Canyon but the canyon system on Mars took the cake here. And the European Space Agency has clicked on the photo.
Valles Marinery, a canyon system on Mars, longer, broader and deepr than the Grand Canyon. 4000 kilometers long, 200 kilometers wide and up to 7 km. This dimension is much bigger than the grand canyon. To place things in the Indian perspective, the length of the marineis Valles is greater than the distance between Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Valles Marineis Image has been captured by Esa Mars Express. The picture shows two trenches, called chasma in the western region of Valles Marinery. The left side of the image is south direction. Lus chasma along 840 kilometers is seen there and the 805 kilometer long -line chasma is visible on the right side of the image. Extraordinary surface details are present in this high resolution image that captures 7 kilometers of marineis values.
The blackened part in the tithonium chasma is black sand. Scientists think that sand must originate from the region of Tharsis volcanoes.
