When humans return to the moon in the coming decade and more and more studies are pushed in and around their orbits, one of the biggest prerequisites is to ensure conditions that help the survival of species in the world that does not have this air. Scientists have now identified a thermal stable location in the moon hole which one day can act as a shelter.

These holes have temperature conditions that float around 17 degrees Celsius and make a thermal stable site for moon exploration compared to areas on the surface of the moon that experience temperatures up to 127 degrees Celsius during the day and minus 173 degrees Celsius at night.

Scientists who use data from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) found these holes, first discovered in 2009, a good place to improve moon research. These holes can be a path to the Cave of Moon which can act as a basis for large research and even used as a shelter for astronauts in the future.

The study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research Letters states that the moon collapsed hole can provide access to a subsurface lava tube with an unknown level. “The moon cave will provide a medium, stable, and safe thermal environment for exploration and a long -term month of residence,” the researchers said in this paper.

The moon hole is an interesting feature on the surface of the moon. Knowing that they created a stable thermal environment helping us paint this unique lunar feature and the prospects of one day explore it, “Lro Noah Petro project scientist said in a statement.

These holes are likely to be made by the ceiling of the collapsed lava tube. The team has now been able to characterize the environment of one of the leading holes located in Mare Tranquilitatis. “The thermal pit environment is more friendly than other places on the moon, with a minimum temperature of around 17 degrees Celsius which is comfortable wherever the sun does not shine directly,” read the paper.

This team focuses on depression 100-metdeep about the length and width of the soccer field and uses a computer modeling to analyze the thermal properties of the rocks and moon dust and to map the temperature of the hole from time to time. They speculate that if a cave extends from the bottom of the hole, like the picture taken by the Lro Moon surveillance camera that suggests, it will also have a relatively comfortable temperature.

Researchers say that the same as our ancient ancestors live in caves before evolving into modern humans when our species return to the moon, they can find the same situation waiting for them.

This cave can act as a savior for species on the moon where one day is the same as 15 days of the earth, where the surface continues to be bombarded by sunlight followed by brutal cold night that lasts too around 15 days of the earth.
